Anzac Day

The weather was absolutely beautiful for today's Anzac Day, commemerating the 92nd anniversary of the Australian and New Zealand soldiers landing on the Gallipoli Beach.

The dawn service at The Shrine of Remembrance (on Melbourne's most recognised boulevard, St Kilda Road) attracted a crowd of approximately 40,000 people, each who paid their respects to those who have served selflessly to protect Australia and allow us to be who we are today. The annual Anzac March followed the dawn service.

Of course, the Melbourne service was but one of many held all over Australia, and of course one held at Gallipoli Beach. According to news services, Australia has one remaining World War 1 veteran, and the numbers are World War 2 veteran are also declining. However, that didn't stop thousands of people marching, children and grandchildren of veteran that is great to see.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.

Today was also the day of the Anzac Day Clash between AFL teams Collingwood and Essendon, played out before a crowd of approximately 90,000 people. Traditionally, no matter where each of the teams is placed on the ladder, is an exciting game with only a few goals separating the two teams after four quarters. Today was no different, with Collingwood taking the game by a mere 16 points and Heath Shaw of Collingwood being awarded the Anzac Day Medal for the best player of the day.
